GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said as of 10am Tuesday, 3.1 million absentee ballots had been cast, which are being counted across the state.

She noted this is the first time all the Detroit precincts opened on time in recent memory.

Benson said at a briefing Tuesday morning, “The same can be said in Flint. That was in no small part due to the hard work of the clerks and poll workers who stepped up because of the pandemic."

Secretary of State Benson also urged voters to heck with the Michigan Secretary of State’s Voter Information Center website to make sure your polling place hasn’t moved — some may have because of coronavirus concerns.

The Michigan secretary of State's office reminds voters that they do not need to show photo identification to vote, but it does speed up the process, so the SoS advises you bring your driver's license or state ID. Voters are strongly urged, but not strictly required, to wear a mask at the polls.
