Storm leaves more than 100K in W. MI without power, causes severe damage

WEST MICHIGAN, (WOOD) — About 122,000 customers living in West Michigan are without power Saturday morning due to severe thunderstorms that caused widespread damage.

Consumers Energy reports that there are approximately 2,635 outages across all of Michigan as of 4 p.m. Saturday.

Officials say a total of 161,000 customers lost power in the storm.

Here are the current outage conditions per customers affected on this side of the state:

  • ALLEGAN COUNTY: 9,658
  • BARRY COUNTY: 5,092
  • CALHOUN COUNTY: 1,670
  • IONIA COUNTY: 4,725
  • KALAMAZOO COUNTY: 2,059
  • KENT COUNTY: 47,413
  • MECOSTA COUNTY: 3,758
  • MONTCALM COUNTY: 5,215
  • MUSKEGON COUNTY: 5,709
  • NEWAYGO COUNTY: 4,247
  • OTTAWA COUNTY: 14,416
  • VAN BUREN COUNTY: 410

Crews from Consumers Energy are currently working to restore power.

One resident in Jenison captured a photo of a trampoline caught in power lines attached to a utility pole on Coconut Drive near Baldwin Street and 28th Avenue early this morning.

Another resident in Cascade Township reported that in addition to losing power, a tree fell into her pool. She also said that she saw one tree on a roof and another on a sailboat.
