Subzero temperatures lead to school closures

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Bitter cold temperatures have prompted some school districts, mostly in southwest Michigan, to close Monday.

The closed districts include (but are not limited to) Kalamazoo Public Schools, Portage Public Schools and Paw Paw Public Schools.

Several of the districts cited frigid temperatures when they called off classes.

Storm Team 8 said temperatures were expected to dip as low as -10 in Grand Rapids, -11 in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, and -15 in Coldwater. The coldest temperatures were expected around sunrise.

Though it will be very cold, snow is not in the forecast for Monday morning.

Below-zero temperatures were also recorded across Michigan early Sunday morning.
