Charges against mom who hit boy with SUV outside school

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A mother is free on $10,000 bond after she was arraigned on charges of child abuse and reckless driving after running over her own son.

The 36-year-old mother was distraught at the Kent County District Court Friday, where she faced a judge to hear the charges leveled against her by the prosecutor: second-degree child abuse and reckless driving causing serious impairment of a bodily function.

Supporters whisked her away from the courthouse following her appearance.

This comes three days after the early morning incident outside Chandler Woods Charter School, where Tiffany Amber Kosakowski, a single mother of 8-year-old twins, was pulling away from the school.

Kent County Sheriff’s investigators say video and witness accounts show her third-grade son was hanging from the passenger side front door handle just before he lost his grip and was run over by the rear tire of her SUV.

“She stopped right away,” said Kent County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Joel Roon told 24 Hour News 8 Thursday.
