Man arrested in Calhoun County vehicle theft

SPRINGFIELD, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities have arrested a man who they say stole a vehicle from a Calhoun County dealership.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office said authorities arrested 50-year-old Jason Allen Stinson of Battle Creek for burglary and auto theft. He is being held at the Calhoun County Jail.

The arrest comes after authorities were called around 6:28 a.m. July 3 to Sunshine Toyota, located at 1355 W Dickman Rd., to investigate a burglary and car theft.

A man entered through the building’s rear service door and stole a vehicle that was waiting a repair, authorities said.

Around 9 a.m., the vehicle was stopped while traveling on I-94 near Helmer Road, and a 31-year-old Battle Creek man was arrested for outstanding warrants and possession of the stolen vehicle. However, investigators determined the vehicle had been traded to the Battle Creek man by the suspect in exchange for narcotics.
