GRPD: Motorcyclist killed, passenger hurt in crash

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed when a motorcycle hit another vehicle on Grand Rapids' northeast side Monday afternoon.

It happened around 2:45 p.m. at the intersection of Knapp Street and Fuller Avenue. The Grand Rapids Police Department says the motorcycle rear-ended a westbound vehicle that was turning south onto Fuller.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 52-year-old Jenison man, was killed. The motorcyclist's passenger, a 48-year-old Grand Rapids woman, was hospitalized. Her condition was unknown later in the day.

On Tuesday, Grand Rapids police said neither of them were wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The people in the other vehicle weren't hurt.

The intersection was closed for about three hours while police investigated, reopening around 5:45 p.m.
