Grand Rapids approves $590M yearly budget

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids City Commission on Tuesday evening approved the city's budget for the 2019 fiscal year.

Under the budget, the city's property tax rate is decreasing from 9.0258 to 8.9710 mills.

The plan includes $590 million in spending, with big chunks of money going to the Vital Streets maintenance program ($17.5 million), the Grand River restoration project ($6.35 million), parks renovations ($4.2 million) and continuing efforts to improve the police department's relationship with the community ($1 million).
