Prosecutors laying out Kzoo cycling tragedy case

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Thursday should bring another long day of testimony in the trial of the man who's charged with killing five bicyclists near Kalamazoo two years ago.

Kalamazoo County prosecutors have called 14 witnesses so far in the trial of Charles Pickett Jr. It's unclear how many more are on their list.

Wednesday's witnesses included survivors of the June 7, 2016, crash on Westnedge Avenue in Cooper Township, north of Kalamazoo, where Pickett drove his pickup truck into a group of bicyclists. One recounted waking up in the road with serious injuries.

Bicyclists Debbie Bradley, Melissa Fevig-Hughes, Tony Nelson, Larry Paulik and Suzanne Sippel were killed in the wreck.
