GR bank robbery leads to gunman search

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police are searching for the gunman who robbed a bank on the city’s northeast side.

It happened around 10 a.m. Tuesday at Independent Bank located at Plainfield and Fuller avenues. It’s unclear if anyone was injured or how much cash was taken.

Officers were still at the scene at noon, working to collect evidence.

The suspect is described as a black man who's approximately 20 years old. He's about 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall with an athletic build. He was last seen wearing black pants and a black three-quarter length winter coat with a hood trimmed in light brown fur.

Police say the robber jumped into the passenger seat of a black 3 Series BMW sedan. Officers say it's a fifth generation vehicle, which means its model year is between 2004 and 2013. The car has alloy wheels and after-market tinted windows.

The robber is still believed to be armed. If you seen him, call 911 but do not approach him.

Anyone with additional information in this case is asked to call Grand Rapids police or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
