2 arrested in connection to Dumbuya's murder

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people have been arrested on perjury charges in connection to the murder of Kentwood student Mujey Dumbuya.

Darren Eckford, 50, and Gerald Bennett, 58, are being held in the Kent County Jail on the charges. Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker said both men have connections to Quinn James, who is the only named person of interest in the case.

Bennett was arrested on March 7 by Grand Rapids police on charges of perjury and being a habitual offender.

Eckford was arrested by Grand Rapids police on March 15 charges of contempt of court, failure to pay child support, perjury and being a habitual offender.

Both men are being held on $100,000 bonds.
