Crime spree suspect arrested after 100 mph chase, crash

WATSON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) –-  A man wanted for a long list of felony crimes is in custody after a police chase ended in a crash in Allegan County, authorities say.

It happened around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday on M-222/116th Avenue near 23rd Street in Watson Township, east of Allegan.

Authorities say the driver, a 26-year-old man from Jackson County, was wanted for assault, unlawful imprisonment and carjacking. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says officers spotted the suspect in Comstock Township, where he committed three home invasions on Savannah Avenue and stole a vehicle.

A short time later, the man gained access to a home on 44th Street in Ross Township and took another vehicle, leaving the first stolen vehicle in the driveway, deputies said. He then committed a fifth home invasion on East Gull Lake Drive, according to the sheriff’s office.

An officer with Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources spotted the suspect driving the second stolen vehicle in Barry County. A source close to the investigation says the suspect reached speeds of 100 mph while leading police through Barry and Allegan counties.

His stolen white pickup truck eventually veered off the road and crashed.

No one was injured in the crimes, according to authorities.

Authorities shut down both directions of M-222 near 23rd Street during the investigation. The eastbound lane has since reopened.
