For Sessions, being attorney general is chance to make mark

Via AP:

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is vowing not to loosen his grip on a job he loves - even as his boss, President Donald Trump, takes repeated shots at him.

Sessions' position atop the Justice Department has given him a chance to make progress on issues he's long championed. Those issues include hard-line immigration policies and aggressive prosecutions of gangs, drugs and gun crime.

Trump's upset that Sessions has stepped aside from the government's Russia investigation - and the president hasn't hidden his displeasure.

Sessions tried to leave behind the Washington turmoil behind last week during a visit to El Salvador, where he focused on a brutal street gang known as MS-13.

The former Alabama senator thinks he's making progress on the policy front, even amid the Russia spotlight.
