Damage Near Freeport May Be from Tornado

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A round of storms rolled though West Michigan Monday evening, bringing strong rain, gusty winds and possibly a tornado in southeast Kent and southwest Ionia counties.

Storm Team 8 says that damage in a rural area north of the village of Freeport could very well be from a quick spin-up tornado. Radar shows rotation developed at 8:24 p.m. in extreme northern Barry County and tracked northeast. At 8:39, the rotation was strongest near the Kent-Ionia county line. Circulation dissipated at 8:46 p.m. in Campbell Township.

The National Weather Service says a barn was torn apart on 92nd Street SE between Wingeier and Freeport avenues. Trees were also down there, making the road impassable. Storm Team 8 says that damage is associated with a tornadic debris signature.
