A pedestrian, pushing a shopping cart, was killed in a crash in Cutlerville on Tuesday night, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department.
It happened around 8:45 p.m. near the intersection of S. Division Avenue and 72nd Street.
The sheriff’s office identified the victim as Michael Lee Merriman, 52, of Grand Rapids. Authorities on scene say Merriman, who was believed to be homeless, was pushing a cart across the street when he was hit by a northbound car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the driver didn’t see the man and does not appear to be at fault.
