GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) –As the craft brew industry continues to grow in West Michigan so do the number of business created as a result of the beer business boom.
Chris Myers is a full-time electrician by day, but come Friday, Sept. 5 he will become a chauffeur as he starts driving the Beer City Runner, which will pick-up people at bars like Hop Cat and shuttle them to other breweries in the area.
“I was talking with a co-worker and it just kind of popped in my head and went with it,” said Myers.
Beer City Runners first bus has been named Hoptimus Prime and it will run on Fridays and Saturdays, bringing people to six different breweries around Beer City.
“I don’t think there’s a good transportation system to get people from place to place. It’s just like you can take your tours and that’s about the only option. This is more in the people’s hands,” Myers said.
The Beer City Runner will start at Founders and make stops at Mitten Brewing, Elk Brewing, Harmony Brewing, Brewery Vivant and one at Hop Cat that will also service Grand Rapids Brewing Company.
The shuttle will stay on a fixed schedule hitting each brewery about once an hour and costs just $8 per person.
