Right to Life of Michigan will be collecting signatures through the end of the month to build a cushion, but its leaders say the organization already has enough signatures to put before the Legislature its proposed voter initiated law limiting insurers to selling abortion coverage only as a separate rider.

Gongwer News Service reports officials said they have all but locked up support from lawmakers to have it enact the proposal, allowing it to bypass the ballot. Right to Life President Barb Listing says that the group, through its ballot committee "No Taxes for Abortion Insurance," is still collecting signatures to be sure there are enough to replace any invalid ones either the group or the Department of State finds in reviewing the sheets.

The group is asking that all of the petitions be submitted by September 30, with plans to turn them in to the Bureau of Elections the following week.
