Grand Rapids police investigate after a nurse was stabbed in a Spectrum Health parking ramp this morning.

The incident occurred just before 8 a.m. at Spectrum Health's Parking Ramp 7, near the Spectrum Health Medical Center in the area of Michigan St. and Lafayette Ave. Spectrum spokesman Bruce Rossman told WOOD Radio they will escort visitors or staff to and from vehicles if they ask. "We've done it (offered escort) a little bit, it will probably take place at a higher rate through the evening."

Rossman said they are reviewing their security technology and offering assistance to the Grand Rapids Police investigation of the attack. "We're reviewing our video cameras, we're talking to staff. It is our assumption along with police that this is an isolated, non-random event and that's how it's being investigated."

WOOD TV is reporting the nurse had been stabbed in the chest with a pen, WOOD Radio is awaiting a call from the GRPD Major Case Team.
