A bio-medical lab in North Carolina tells the Grand Rapids police that it might be able to help solve a 15 year old case of rape.

The suspects are identical twins. One of them did it, but DNA testing could not tell the difference between them.

That may change with new tests available from the Center for Advanced Forensic DNA in North Carolina.

GRPD Captain Jeff Hertel tells WOOD TV the company hopes to prove its process can work in similar cases elsewhere in the world. Hertel says the local detectives have been waiting patiently for 15 years and that the victim, a woman who now is in her 40s, wants to see a conviction.

But that cannot happen unless the tests can show the difference between Jerome Cooper and his twin brother, Tyrone, who both have sex crimes in their past.
