The City of Grand Rapids alerted residents Friday of a road project slated to tie up about a mile of traffic on Burton near East Grand Rapids.

Phase I of a resurfacing project starts Aug. 25 on curbs and gutters, though no construction is scheduled for the Labor Day holiday weekend.

From then on, the city says to expect traffic shifts and lane closures to be associated with a project that's part of a $1.7 million city-wide resurfacing project.

Traffic will be down to one lane in each direction starting Sept. 11.

Construction should be completed by Sept. 20 and work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with some weekend construction to be expected.
