Ferris State University hockey moves on to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Final Five with a 3-2 double-overtime win over Bemidji State.
Ferris won the association's regular season title and the top seed plays at 7 Friday night at Van Andel Arena.
The Bulldogs were down 2-1 late in regulation when they pulled their goalie and the extra skater scored, sending the game to overtime.
There was no scoring in the first extra period, but 5:15 into the second, captain Scott Czarnowczan scored a short-handed goal.
Ultimately, the playoff contest lasted more than 85 minutes and the university says it's the longest game ever played at the Ewigleben Ice Arena. The game ran long in part because of a broken pane of glass in the first period, in addition to the overtime.
