There’s a cougar wandering around the Huron Mountains in the western Upper Peninsula.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says a photograph taken by a hunter’s trail camera is legitimate.

The picture was taken in an area off County Road 510 southeast of Big Bay in Marquette County in mid-October. The DNR is working to verify another photo taken in the same general area in late September.

They think it is probably the same animal. For years, the DNR said there were no cougars in the U.P. That changed more than two years ago when several pictures of a cougar were confirmed in the Copper Country.
