Another Michigan Cougar Sighting

Another Michigan Cougar Sighting
Posted July 25th, 2013 @ 6:26am by Chuck LaTour, WOOD Radio news team

A man says he saw a cougar kill a deer about 4 miles outside Howell in Michigan's Lower Peninsula.

Mike Casciani says he doesn't have a picture or proof that what he saw in Livingston County's Genoa Township was a cougar. He says he heard a lot of commotion before seeing the attack.

Casciani says the deer was dragged into a thicketed area.

Adam Bump is one of four Michigan Department of Natural Resources biologists specially trained to investigate cougar reports. He says the department doesn't plan to go to Casciani's home to investigate, since there isn't evidence such as tracks or photographs.

The DNR has verified the presence of cougars in Michigan's Upper Peninsula about 20 times since 2008.
