4 Judges Named to Hear Lawsuits Against Michigan

The Michigan Supreme Court has moved quickly to staff a new court to hear lawsuits against the state.

The four judges on the Court of Claims will be Pat Donofrio, Amy Ronayne Krause, Deborah Servitto and Michael Talbot. They also are judges on the state appeals court and will continue to maintain a caseload there.

The judges were appointed unanimously by the Supreme Court.

Gov. Rick Snyder signed a law Tuesday that takes state lawsuits away from Ingham County judges. Supporters of the change say it makes sense that judges from around Michigan hear litigation against the state.

But critics claim the Republican-controlled Legislature simply wanted to take cases away from a county where judges have ties to Democrats.
